《海賊之王——鄭芝龍傳奇》為「2020-21第四屆臺灣戲曲藝術節旗艦製作」，由即將邁向百年的歌仔戲世家明華園戲劇總團，與故事工廠黃致凱、王瓊玲聯手打造，再創臺灣傳統戲劇新視野。
以大航海時代為故事背景，重返天下英雄齊聚臺灣，亞洲地區被捲入前所未見的風暴時刻。一切秩序尚未建立，海上世界沒有公法、沒有規則。臺灣這片土地從一座孤懸海外之島，變身成為兵家必爭的戰略要地，各路豪傑必須在驚心動魄的人性爭伐中殺出血路。
跨界旗艦大戲由臺灣傳統戲劇無敵小生孫翠鳳領銜主演，詮釋「鄭芝龍」波瀾壯闊的人生，特別邀請永遠的美猴王朱陸豪、喜劇小王子林木森、實力派演員郭耀仁跨界合作，歌仔戲新生代陳子豪、陳昭婷、李郁真、晨翎、吳米娜、王婕菱、姜琬宜暨明華園總團藝術家族聯合演出，盛大再現驚滔駭浪海上戰役史詩。
Zheng ZhiLong, The Pirate King of Formosa is the flagship Taiwanese opera production of the 2020–21 season and part of the 4th Taiwan Traditional Theatre Festival. Produced by the almost century-old Ming Hwa Yuan Arts and Culture Group in association with Story Works Theatre Company's Sky HUANG and WANG Chiung-Ling, the opera is set to elevate Taiwan's theatre performances to a whole new level.
It was the era of Great Maritime Exploration. Legendary historical figures arrived in Taiwan. The entire East Asia got caught in a storm on a scale never seen before. There was no order and no rule on the sea. Maritime law would not come into existence for another century. Taiwan, a historically neglected isle off the mainland, leaped into prominence. One must survive the thrilling conquests of humanity and carve out a unique path in order to prevail here.
Zheng ZhiLong, The Pirate King of Formosa is a re-imagination of the epic maritime battles that shaped our understanding of history. Renowned stage actress SUN Tsui-Feng is set to play crossover with JU Lu-hau, the comedian LIN Mu-sen, KUO Yao-ren, emerging performers CHEN Tsu-hao, CHEN Chao-ting, LI Yu-chen, WU Mi-na, WANG Chieh-ling, and CHIANG Wan-I, as well as the Ming Hwa Yuan Arts and Culture Grop.
