舒伯特生平的最後一首弦樂四重奏，完成於1826 年。恢弘展現和聲張力及情感對比，利用顫音、齊奏及廣闊音域等寫法，以明暗色彩的交織帶出舒伯特末期作品中獨特的詭譎氣氛。第一樂章奏鳴曲式以大小調性對比的和聲引導出貫穿全曲的動機，並展現了創新的和聲發展。第二樂章行版，由大提琴的ｅ小調旋律帶出惆悵的氣息，此後隨即以強烈的附點節奏及富有張力的音階展示戲劇性，最後於明朗且徐緩的Ｅ大調中結束。第三樂章為輕盈的詼諧曲，運用類無窮動單一快速的節奏呈現，中段以大提琴主奏引入較抒情的聲部對話，再回到開頭無窮動樂段作收尾。最終第四樂章富含了節奏變化、模糊交織的大小調性及舞曲般的旋律，以類輪旋曲的形式發展並如史詩般的宏偉規模結束全曲。

SCHUBERT's G Major string quartet, composed in 1826, was his last. The work presents significant features and unusual musical language of SCHUBERT's last composing stage. The first movement opens with the most important motive - the clashing of the unexpected major-minor twist, which foreshadows SCHUBERT's extraordinary harmonic imaginations in the piece. In the Andante movement, the Composer uses two distinctive sections to create conflict and drama, as he does later in the third movement as well. The slow melancholy e minor cello solo is followed by the section of agitating dotted rhythm, tremolo and rapid scales, which then returns to the opening material but ends the movement in E Major. Next comes the light-textured Scherzo movement consisting of continuous fast sixteenth notes. The contrasting trio section with melodic duets creates the sense of space and conversation and then returns to the opening section. The final Allegro movement resembles a
playful tarantella dance that is full of surprises in key, rhythm, and dynamics.
