太巴塱阿美族的老始祖曾住在「南方」的 Arapana-panayan 之地,其第六個小孩為會發光的女兒,名叫 Tiyamacan 。有次 Tiyamacan 在溪邊提水時,海神之子 Kariwasan 因此對她青睞有加,並揚言要在五天之後即來迎娶她。到了當天,海神之子卻高起大海嘯捲娶,淹沒了大地,家人也就此散佚。惟有臼內兄妹 Doci 和 Lalakan 未遭不測,乃隨波漂流,最後停泊在冉而山。等到兩人在此長大成人,結婚後產下的第一胎孩子卻是爬蟲類,兩夫妻哀痛不已並對天長嘯,太陽女神聽此哀戚心生憐憫,特地派使者教導他們「祭儀」,後再懷孕才生出正常人類之子。他們所生的第四個小男孩 Tahtah no Cidal 在巡獵時意外發現了新的臨溪山坡地 Saksakay ,於是舉家遷於此地,並長居繁衍後代迄今。
本次演出特色主要是以上述之太巴塱的祖源神話故事,再搭配馬太鞍阿美族的「宇宙創生」神話,劇情意像上希望以原神話其中鏡子 D-adingo-an 、靈魂`Adingo 、影子`Adingo 等延伸意涵及象徵提供觀眾無限想像。並以古謠曲吟唱來呈現敘事、對話和角色獨白等,也穿插著一些口白來編述對話及獨白等,而歌隊將以「全知觀點」歌述表達各角色的情愫和情境。而全劇之重點滔天巨浪將由天藍布鰻佐以歌舞及肢體呈現,表達海嘯之威勢或微波的各種狀態。本劇亦將部份場景拉回現代,像是第三幕呈現2004印度洋大海嘯及近年來的土石流帶來的慘劇,都是因為人類失序的行為造成環境破壞,藉由「預言」、「迫害」、「重新」、「光明」結構呈現。另外 Doci 和 Lalakan 經神聖的「祭儀」後,始生「人之子」來之場景,將以「光」、「海」、「鏡」的意象來呈現。
Combining the ancestral myth of the Tafalong tribe and the cosmological genesis of the Fataan tribe, the troupe revives not only the main premise of this touching Amis story, but also its folk chants and music. Everything begins with the romance of Tiyamacan, daughter of the ancestor of the Amis people, and Kariwasanup, son of the sea god who, upon the wedding, brings a huge tsunami and death to the family of the bride. Young Doci and Lalakan, protected by mortar and thus kept safe from drowning, survive the disaster only to find that their first child tums out to be a reptile. Hearing their desperate cry, the goddess of the sun pities them and sends a messenger to teach them the proper ritual. This allows them to carry on the lineage new home in Saksakay, where the Amis now live. This production aims to extend the meaning behind certain elements of the myths, such as the images of D-adingo-an (mirror) and `Adingo (soul or shadow), relating a different understanding of the world. The narration, dialogue, and soliloquies are presented artfully in the form of traditional chants, while the omniscient choral songs reinforce the establishment of the characters and the situations they find themselves in. In reflection upon the relationship between humans and nature, the production also attempts to incorporate contemporary environmental problems, drawing into the scenes mentions of the tsunami in India and the recent landslides in Taiwan. In hope or desperation, the characters eventually turn to religion, which grants them light and new life in the hands of the Son of Man.
