陳冠宇台灣台南市人，八歲開始學習鋼琴，先後師事王久惠、張臨麟、高錦花、陳郁秀、魏樂富和張瑟瑟等名師，以第一名成績畢業於國立台灣師範大學音樂學系，獲得學士學位。退伍後即赴美國紐約曼哈頓音樂學院(Manhattan School of Music, New York, USA)深造，並獲得鋼琴演奏碩士學位、職業演奏家文憑、鋼琴教學法文憑，及就讀美國紐約市立大學(CUNY，USA)音樂系音樂藝術鋼琴演奏博士班，曾師事名鋼琴家: Arkady Aronov、Oxana Yablonskaya、Abbey Simon、Boris Slutsky、Peter Basquin、John Perry及 Bernard Ringeissen等人。 在台灣求學期間，陳冠宇已囊括各項鋼琴比賽冠軍，旅美留學期間，更獲得多項國際獎項，其中包括著名的第十三屆美國 Joanna Hodges國際鋼琴大賽第三名、紐約 Five Towns Music and Arts Foundation, Inc.的鋼琴首獎，以及紐約 Artists International, Inc.的青年藝術家獎等。曾於紐約卡內基音樂廳，及林肯中心舉辦鋼琴獨奏會，兩次均獲紐約音樂界極高之評價。

A native of Taiwan, Kwan-Yu(Eric) Chen began piano studies at eight. Mr. Chen had received numerous scholarships, awards and prizes while educating in Taiwan, including first prize of the Second annual Taipei Youth Chopin Piano Competition in Taiwan. While studying in the States, he had won a major prize in the 13th annual Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition in Palm Desert, California, and first prize in Five Towns Music and Arts Foundation in New York. Mr. Chen made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall sponsored by Artists International’s annual Young Artists Piano Award. Artists International also presented Mr. Chen as an Alumnus winner of Young Artists Piano Award, and he performed in his solo recital at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Both New York recitals received the highest music critical acclaim, and established Eric Chen as an international concert pianist. Eric Chen received his master’s degree and piano pedagogy diploma, and was awarded a professional studies certificate at Manhattan School of Music(New York, USA) as a student of Arkady Aronov, Boris Slutsky, John Perry, and Oxana Yablonskaya. He had stydied for the DMA degree at the City University of New York(USA) as a student of Abbey Simon, and Peter Basquin since 1993. Recently, he was also coached by internationally famous French pianist, Bernard Ringeissin, during the Mozart music festival at Taipei Municipal University of Education in 2006.
