一次再平常不過的房客退租，為什麼會引來家門口一輛停了一年也不開走的卡車？為了清空家門，怎麼又得牽扯上警察、司法官僚體系，以及賴也賴不掉的人情世故？
臺灣戰後堅持採日文寫作、曾獲首屆吳濁流文學獎的作家黃靈芝，晚年始被日本學者重新發現，被視為臺灣文學遺忘的瑰寶。他以洞察世事的眼光及奇特的佈局，留下超越時代的作品。《天中殺》由同名短篇小說改編，標題意指「空亡」，實則以卡夫卡式的敘事，反映出大時代下卑微小人物的生存困境。
編劇暨導演鴻鴻向來擅長跨界創作與革新思維，在本次製作中，他不僅要讓聲樂家們透過華、臺、日語等多語言交織，映照出分歧的價值觀，更將協同指揮簡文彬，與作曲家李元貞、爵士樂手謝明諺攜手合作，以充滿彈性的爵士樂風格為槓桿，打造出融合室內樂、聲樂演唱與薩克斯風自由協奏的當代歌劇，邀您一同在「混種」中找到藝術開創的全新可能。
天中殺 (tentyuusatu)，為日文占卜用語，又稱空亡或天中煞。意指命盤中遇到天干地支不合時出現的神煞格局，此時陷入局中，將會凡事災煞上身無法化解。
Why would a tenant moving out attract a truck that parked in front of the door for a year? Why would clearing the house involve the police, the jurisdiction, and such sophistication? HUANG Ling-zhi, a writer who persisted in writing in Japanese after World War II and won the 1st WU Chuo-liu Literature Prize, was given importance by Japanese scholars in his late period, and his works were considered the forgotten gem in Taiwanese literature. With a clear vision and a unique format, HUANG created works that far surpassed the scope of his era. Portent, based on a short story of the same name, refers to a human-induced disaster. HUANG told the story in the Kafkaesque style to depict the hardship of the common people in this era of drastic change.
Deft at creating cross-disciplinary works and equipped with the creative thinking ability, Playwright and Director HUNG HUNG will arrange for vocalists to communicate with each other in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Japanese to reflect the divergent value of each character. In addition, he will work with conductor CHIEN Wen-pin, composer LI Yuan-chen and jazz musician Minyen HSIEH to create a contemporary opera based on jazz music. It will incorporate chamber music, voice, and freestyle saxophone to explore new possibilities for artistic creation through such a mixed style.
