quire some alterations from the original register, at times played an octave lower to retain the singing quality of the instrument. SCHUBERT explores not only the wide range of the instrument, but also the range of emotions. The melancholic sentiment at the beginning of the first movement soon replaced by the joyous second theme, the Yodeling from the Alps. A short yet lyrical second movement reminds us of his Lieder and it leads to a lilting and hopeful last movement, with an anxious contrasting section in minor. The middle section adds a charming segment in E Major, swinging from low to high registers, its unpredictability in going to different directions ultimately leads back to the main theme of the last movement.
