《夜半鼓聲》是布萊希特劇作家生涯中的第二部作品，是他第一個被搬上舞台的作品。1919年，在他寫下這個劇本時，他還沒有發展出「疏離效果」這個概念，劇本中的文字依舊是傳統戲劇形式，不過在2019TIFA 台灣國際藝術節演出的《夜半鼓聲》，我們可以看見德國新生代導演克里斯多福．魯賓（Christopher Rüping）將時間軸從1922年一路推展到現在。
Drums in the Night is Brecht's second work in his playwright career as well as the first work to be performed on the stage. When he wrote the play in 1919, he had not yet developed the concept of "alienation effect" and therefore the play was still written in the traditional theatrical form. On the other hand, the German director Christopher Rüping’s production of Drums in the Night presented in the 2019 Taiwan International Festival of Arts, pushes the timeline from 1922 all the way to the present.
