爵士新樂種‧台灣製造 世界上第一次出現這樣的聲音 你可以說它是新品種的爵士樂，裡面有幽微飄逸的含笑花香、武林高手的俐落拳腳、還有喜氣洋洋的東方情調；也可以說它是新品種的國樂，因為它聽起來，既古老又新潮、既典雅又隨興，讓人忍不住自由搖擺。

絲竹空爵士樂團是一個發芽於爵士土壤而開始音樂尋根之旅的樂團，她結合了一群富有想像力、勇於嘗試的爵士樂和國樂好手，讓古典的韻味與爵士的即興激盪出超乎想像的獨特聲響。

主修爵士作曲的樂團音樂總監彭郁雯，畢業於美國以爵士教育著稱的柏克里音樂學院 ( Berklee College of Music ) ，她以嫻熟的作曲技巧，喚醒血液中古老的記憶，融入當下的生活點滴，創作出一種你從未聽過的聲音。在這裡，東方與西方、音樂與靜謐、傳統與現代，都像銀河系星群那樣錯落有致地和諧共生著。你可以聽到以古曲，如潮州箏曲《寒鴉戲水》為靈感而寫成的《水畔》、《嬉水》，也可以聽到《敦煌》、《鳳陽》等，以東方音樂和生活為素材的細緻創作，還可以聽到發想自台灣歌謠的《想起思想起》等。

絲竹空自2005年成立以來，已於國內外公開演出五十餘場，樂手們精湛的技術以及充滿張力的表現方式，每每獲得觀眾熱烈的迴響。重要演出經歷包括獲邀參加2005台北藝術節、2005及2006台北電影節開幕音樂會、2005及2007台中爵士音樂節、2007上海朱家角水鄉世界音樂季、2008雅加達國際爪哇爵士音樂節、2008年10月預定於韓國 Jarasum 國際爵士音樂節演出，另2005-08年間更巡演大學校園十餘場。2007年3月，樂團發行同名專輯 [絲竹空]，將本土音樂與爵士元素完美融合，入圍2008年金曲獎最佳演奏專輯及最佳製作人 ( 彭郁雯 ) 兩項大獎，並於亞洲許多國家上市，深獲愛樂者和樂評人的喜愛與肯定！ 聽了絲竹空才知道，原來，國樂可以隨性搖擺，而爵士也能古意盎然！

The early buds of Sizhukong were first nurtured by jazz, later growing exuberant with the inspiration of Asian music. With talented and bold musicians mastering jazz and Chinese music, Sizhkong creates the music that not only fuses ancient recollections with life experiences but also juxtaposes the East and the West, the traditional and the modern, the melody and the tranquility- all elements sparkle complementarily and harmoniously, like splendid galaxies in the universe. You can expect the tunes inspired by ancient Chinese music, such as Waterfront and Bleak Bird. Dunhuang, Fengyang, and other such compositions influenced by Eastern music and lifestyle will also catch your eye. In addition, Sizhukong will bring audience music with the color of Taiwanese folk songs, such as Thinking of Ssu Hsiang Chi.

Led by the music director Yu-Wen Peng, Sizhukong's artists have invented with top skills the music the world has never heard of. Since its foundation in 2005, Sizhukong has held more than 50 performances, proving itself in many important events, including 2005 Taipei Arts Festival, 2005 & 2006 Taipei Film Festival Opening Concerts, 2005 & 2007 Taichung Jazz Festival, 2007 Shanghai Zhu Jia Jiao Water Village World Music Festival, and 2008 Jakarta Java Jazz Festival.

Sizhukong has won numerous praises from music lovers and critics, winning hearts of many audiences with the artists' sophisticated skills and utterly infectious melodies. Their first album Sizhukong also perfectly blends local music with jazz ingredient, and was nominated for Best Instrumental Album of the Golden Melody Awards. Yu-Wen Peng was also nominated for Best Instrumental Album Producer.

How to define Sizhukong? You may call it a new genre of jazz that creates images of floating fragrance of flowers, forceful fighting of Kung Fu masters, and cheerful mood of Eastern festivity. You may also name it neo-Chinese music, because it sounds both antique and modern at same time, naturally making people swing to the elegant yet playful melodies. Yet the very answer to the question will be found only after you listen to Sizhukong in person.
