In the era of film, dance has found a dynamic medium for documentation and creation. Film not only changes how dance is disseminated but also its pace and appearance. How can dance be preserved and understood in today's fast-paced world, or how can it avoid being forgotten?
This is one of the reasons dance films exist. Dance films have developed a rich vocabulary to date. They encompass not only the power and beauty between the lens and movement but also document and create historical memories of dance and the body. This year, Curator CHOU Shu-Yi has proposed the theme Dance, the history of the Body, hoping to discover works that move beyond traditional aesthetic images. Instead, the call seeks dance films that explore historical memories through: the personal, collective, kinetic, corporeal, past/future, documented/recreated.
