獨幕裝置歌劇《驚園》為衛武營、美國斯波萊多藝術節、紐約林肯中心藝術節、新加坡國際藝術節共同製作，由蜚聲國際的裝置藝術家馬文擔任導演及舞台設計、旅美華人作曲家黃若進行音樂創作、崑曲名伶錢熠擔任劇中尋夢的女子。有別於一般歌劇以文本或音樂切入，本劇從導演馬文的裝置藝術發想啟動，聯手華人作曲家黃若在已有六百年歷史的傳統文化崑曲與西方歌劇音樂的基礎上，以西方的作曲編創手法，詩意地引用《伊甸園》與《牡丹亭》的故事，編織一個嶄新的當代神話。 舞台裝置是在當代藝術文本背景中，探討中國山水畫散點視角的獨特風格，同時為之增加時間的維度。樹與花園等重要的舞台裝置，從空無的舞台展開，又在作品結束時回到虛無。傳統戲曲舞台的設計是激發這些元素以及互動虛擬角色的靈感。
Paradise Interrupted is an installation opera in one act co-commissioned and co-produced by National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), Spoleto Festival USA, Lincoln Center Festival, and Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA). It is directed and designed by the internationally renowned installation artist, Jennifer Wen MA, with music composed by HUANG Ruo, and performed by Kunqu diva QIAN Yi. Different from the general text-based or music-based interpretations of opera, MA creates from the perspective of installations and collaborates with HUANG to adopt Western orchestration on top of the foundation of the six-hundred-year tradition of Kunqu and Western operatic music. This opera intertextualizes the stories of the Garden of Eden and The Peony Pavilion from a poetic angle, to recount a brand-new contemporary myth. The stage installation explores the unique style of the multi-point perspective in Chinese landscape paintings, meanwhile adding in the dimensions of time. The important installations, such as trees and garden, unfold from the empty stage, and return to the void when the performance concludes. These elements are inspired by the stage design of traditional Chinese opera, and so are the interactive virtual characters.
