《聲聲慢》取自宋代女詞人李清照最著名的詞作。本次製作取「聲聲慢」為主題,出自兩層意義:一方面南管音樂即是在定、靜、慢之間緩緩推向超越時空與速度的和諧共鳴,演奏者在節拍的留白之中,創造出文化性的美感「聲聲慢」一詞充份表現出南管音樂這樣的文化音響;上半場以九人編制,並融合傳統南管懷古敬賢的儀典特色,樂師以行進方式敬肅出場,呈現南管上四管琵琶、洞簫、三弦、三弦及拍板清雅古樸的音樂風格,由指而曲,在定、靜、慢之間表現「曲依弦而歌,弦依曲而和,一聲唱而群音和」的傳統音樂之美。
二方面,繼《琵琶行》、《葬花吟》之後,心心南管樂坊的「南管文學系列」也再度新添詞作《聲聲慢》,李清照最擅寫愁,文字具有強烈的、韻律美,或疏緩或緊促,聲情並茂,音韻和諧,在日常生活細節裡篩出珠串般的美感情愁,音樂總監王心心嘗試以南管曲牌編創,加上其個人幽婉的唱腔,唱出「尋尋覓覓,冷冷清清,淒淒慘慘戚戚」一層層翻流滾動的愁緒。
Xinxin Nanguan Ensemble was founded by celebrated Nanguan exponent Wang Xinxin with the aim of offering the "most ancient and the most modern" for age-old Nanguan music to reach the contemporary world and thence flourish. “Sheng-sheng-man" (lit. voicing-voice-slowly, name of a particular Nanguan operatic melody ) , takes after the celebrated lyrics at Song Dynasty Poetess Li Qingzhao (1 084-1151) had written for it. Using “sheng-sheng-man" as theme for this program has a two-fold meaning. Firstly, because Nanguan music resides between stillness and slowness, gradually to stir" moving beyond time-space to resonate with harmony and movement, the performer in the “blank" spaces between beats generates sense of beauty related to this culture; and the term “sheng-sheng-man" sufficiently embodies the particular sound of Nanguan music. Secondly, in the wake of previous productions “Song of the Pipa Lute", ”Zanghuay in Elegy on a Funeral for Flowers" of the “Nanguan Literary Series", the Xinxin Nanguan Ensemble once more fit new verses to the “sheng-sheng-man" tune, Li Qingzhao excels in describing sorrow, selecting from the minutiae of daily life beautiful melancholic sentiments much like pearls on a string.
