《皆大歡喜》特色

傳統戲曲俗諺有「三分前場，七分後場」之語，意味著後場音樂對戲劇演出具有重要地位，除了操偶的視覺性、口白、樂隊，都是構成一齣戲是否成功的關鍵。《皆大歡喜》則從聽覺形式著手，取消口白，搭配傳統北管文武場音樂，仰賴僅有視覺上對偶的姿態與行為的判斷，轉而成為「七分前場，三分後場」的表演形式跨越語言、族群、年齡的隔閡。因此，演出設定以布袋戲默劇的形式演出，期望藉由戲偶肢體語言及工藝、音樂等藝術層面的表現跨越語言的藩籬。

《皆大歡喜》劇情簡介

《皆大歡喜》劇情以單線敘事進行，因此對觀眾而言較容易理解，人物主要有公子、小姐及其童僕，引發戲劇衝突者虎精，以及解危者道士。

故事起先為公子與小姐的居家場景，公子磨墨、寫作，小姐梳髮洗臉，書僮與ㄚ環在旁伺候。而後僕人背著書箱隨公子一同外出，翻山越嶺、搭船渡江。一虎精出現，化身婆姐，公子與僕人休憩飲食後，僕人暈倒，公子驚慌逃跑，虎精在後追逐；幸一道士出現解危，道士與虎精各自使出法器大展神通，飛劍、飛球相鬥一番，道士又以葫蘆使虎精化為原形，最後順利收服虎精。公子與男僕向道士致謝，道士便攜虎精騰雲駕霧而去。畫面一轉，公子高中狀元騎馬回鄉，雜耍演員一同歡樂，小姐與公子會面團圓，書僮也順利抱得ㄚ環歸。

Distinguishing features of To the Satisfaction of All 

In traditional xiqu, there is a saying that shows the importance of the xiqu orchestra, "Thirty percent of acting, seventy percents of music." The puppets, the speaking and the music are keys to a successful work. To the Satisfaction of All puts special efforts on how the audience hears the show. It cancels the speeches, instead, it highlights the Beiguan music, and tries to reverse its style into "Seventy percent of acting, thirty percents of music." The audience has to look more closely at the puppets' gestures and actions. Without the speeches, the performance breaks the walls of languages, races and ages. Therefore, its performance could be seen as "hand puppet mimes." Chang Yi Ge expects to communicate with the world via the artistic crafts, the music, and the body languages of the hand puppets.

Synopsis of To the Satisfaction of All

To the Satisfaction of All is a singular narrative. Therefore, it's easier for the audience to understand. The main characters are Young Man, Young Lady, Servant, Maid, Tiger with magical power and Taoist Priest that saves the humans from Tiger. 

The story begins with the daily life of Young Man and Young Lady. Servant serves Young Man to grind the ink stick against the inkstone and to write with the ink; Maid helps Young Lady to comb her hair and washes her face. Then, Servant carries the book box and travels with Young Man. They climb the mountains and ride a ship to go across a river. Tiger appears and disguises itself as an old woman. Young Man and Servant have their meals, Tiger chases them, Servant faints and Young Man runs. Fortunately Taoist Priest shows up to protect them. Taoist Priest and Tiger fight with magical weapons and tools such as flying swords and flying balls. Taoist Priest uses a gourd to make the Tiger show its real form. In the end, Tiger succumbs. Young man and Servant thank Taoist Priest for his rescue, then Taoist Priest rides a cloud with Tiger and bids farewell. In the next scene, Young Man rides a horse and goes back to his hometown. He has come first in the highest imperial examination. The jugglers celebrate around him. Young Man and Young Lady reunite. Servant and Maid fall in love.
