雙和庄山腳與後庄兩個村落隔著荖寮溪相望，山腳為福路派，信奉西秦王爺，後庄為西皮派，信奉田都元帥，兩派因細故結怨，互為仇讎。從日返台的留學生嚴一朗和林娟娟分別是福路派和西皮派大佬的兒女，兩人正在熱戀中，甫踏上故鄉，便得面對兩庄惡鬥，無法獲得祝福的隱憂。適逢地方一年一度的廟會做熱鬧，山腳、後庄同時邀請「雙雲陞」至廟前鬥戲，雙雲陞當紅文武生貴雲與雲嬌，兩人心中各有秘密。
In Northeastern Taiwan’s Shuanghe area, Shanjiao Village and Houzhuang Villages are separated by Laoliao River. The two villages hold grudges against each other over many trivial matters, but the deep-rooted cause is that they have different religions and belong to different schools of Beiguan Opera, the former engaging in Fu-lu School while the latter, Xi-pi School. YAN Yi-lang and LIN Juan-juan are both overseas Taiwanese students in Japan and fall in love with each other. But they are respectively the son and daughter of leaders of the Fu-lu School and Xi-pi School. Upon returning home from Japan, they face not the blessing from their families but instead the vicious fighting between the two schools. With the annual temple festival approaching, both schools happen to invite the same Beiguan Opera Theatre Troupe, Shuangyun- sheng, to perform in front of the temples.
