1988年戈爾德恩在他短暫的壯年生命末期，寫下這部被視為登峰造極之作的劇本《Roberto Zucco》。本劇擷取義大利連續殺人犯蘇科 ( Roberto Succo ) 殺人越獄真實新聞事件的片段連綴而成，全劇分成十五個場景來鋪展主角越獄、返家弒母、「強暴」少女、行刺警察、惹事生非、劫持人質、射殺無辜、遭人舉發、逮捕歸案的歷程以及最後的逃亡墜樓。藉由真人真事暴露日益嚴重的現代都會問題，如系列謀殺、非法交易、少女賣娼、問題家庭、乖戾的青少年等等。主角從劇首逃獄後四處遊蕩，為非作歹，禍及「小女生」與「優雅的太太」兩家人，這兩個家庭的解體構成情節支線，呼應並對照如戈的家庭問題。
劇本內容由一殺人犯的逃亡過程延伸到各領域議題的開闊視野，所提供的各種詮釋方向以及在劇場空間營造各種意象的可能性，都給予了導演、演員、和設計群極大的想像空間，而這想像空間的建立能夠給予觀眾理智與情感上或是視覺流動上猛然一擊。
In1988, Koltes created Roberto Zucco, the masterpiece of his at the end of his limited life. This play was based on a true story of Roberto Succo who killed and broke prison. The play consist of 15 scenes including breaking prison, returning home and killing his own mother, raping young girls, killing policemen, messing around, hijacking, shooting innocence, reported, arrested, escaping and finally falling off a building and was killed. Real story exposes real modern metropolitan problems such as serial murders, drug dealing, prostitution, rebelling juvenile and etc. The leading actor broke prison when the play started. He drifted and messed around and endangered the two families of the little girl and the gracious lady. The destructure of these two families reflect the family problems of Zucco's. The script extends its issue to be discussed by telling the fugitive's running process. The play provides all kinds of possibilities and widely open imaginations for audiences. The establishing of such imaginations can give audiences strikes both emotionally and visually.
