享譽國際編舞家阿喀郎．汗藝術生涯巔峰之作！完美融合現代舞與芭蕾，他為英國國家芭蕾舞團量身打造的《吉賽兒》被譽為本世紀最偉大的傑作之一。以後工業革命為背景，舞作從浪漫故事摘出隱而未見的社會階級及性別權力等元素。吉賽兒化身紡織廠女工，被資本主義鎖進製衣廠內，而戀人與她共組雙圓弧，彼此聯翩迴旋不止⋯⋯阿喀郎．汗成功打造以經典文本直面當代社會議題的撼人鉅作。
這支作品獲得英國《每日快報》、《獨立報》、《標準晚報》、《週日時報》等四大報舞評不約而同地用「大獲全勝」（triumph）來形容，不僅是對阿喀郎獨特藝術高度的盛讚，也是對英國國家芭蕾舞團前藝術總監塔瑪拉．若荷所倡議「讓芭蕾這個藝術形式重新跟今日的世界產生共鳴」的最佳肯定。
With wave after wave of ominous music, she approaches. Stepping into a place that is alien, escaping from a century-old text, her arms are stretched across her shoulders as she presses against the huge Cold Wall. Locked inside a capitalist garment factory, she awakens in the post-industrial era.
Internationally renowned choreographer Akram Khan, who is at the pinnacle of his artistic career, created Giselle for the English National Ballet. It is a perfect blend of modern dance and ballet and hailed as one of the greatest masterpieces of this century. Set against the backdrop of the post-industrial revolution, within this love story are hidden elements related to social class and gender power. Giselle is a laborer locked inside a capitalistic garment factory. Her would-be lovers form double arcs with her as they revolve around one another. This masterpiece, while based on a classic text, directly addresses contemporary social issues.
