「高雄大王」們有著的共同點，都非常重視人與人之間的互動，這或許源自於高雄人總是給人親切、純樸，充滿人情味的本性，這番人情味也是高雄最有溫度的文化，然而隨著高雄正從工業轉向都市化，科技的日新月異，求新求變的同時，卻忘了當時那顆初衷的心。時代應該是進步，不是對立；科技應該是讓人更緊密，不是更疏離，記得老一輩總掛在嘴邊的一句話：「見面三分情。」這份情是科技再進步，城市再發展，沒有任何發明可取代的。《高雄大王》透過導演自身面對歌仔戲劇團傳承的真實故事，來談世代交替、時代進步的同時，自問我們流失了什麼？忘掉了什麼？這是一場歌仔戲的全新嘗試，打破既有的演出形制，並導入紀錄劇場的概念，企圖將《高雄大王》生命記憶，透由這台灣土生土長的劇種以傳統戲曲符號與現代語彙對話方式，傳達給民眾。本次特邀全方位的表演藝術家呂雪鳳老師及戲曲音樂家柯銘峰老師，以「歌仔戲」的黃金組合，與大家一起透由臺灣新歌仔，來認識及觀察高雄這塊土地，這個我們落地生根的第二個故鄉！
Kaohsiung Da Wang (King of Kaohsiung), people who live in Kaohsiung that are fearless, dare to break through, tough minded in different fields from past to present. Da Wang represents the confidence and straightforward, Da Wang (King) is everywhere in the city, it could be on a signboard, a name of a shop; however, there are still many not so well-known companies which established in Kaohsiung, keep supplying industrial and livelihood needs and industrial use for not only southern Taiwan but also the whole country. All the Da Wang (King) from different backgrounds, industries and careers, they do have their own history and stories of how they rooted and developed in the city. Digging into the depth, we could see their business philosophies, and their indispensable experiences that cumulative from living. This is a brand new attempt of Taiwanese Opera (Gezaixi), we try to break the existing form, and import the concept of documentary theater. By the combination of the traditional drama symbol and the contemporary language, we hope to share the life experiences of Kaohsiung Da Wang to the public.
