錢舟一九六八年出生於杭州，父親是一位小提琴、指揮兼作曲家，而母親則是一位優秀的芭蕾舞者。在五歲時，由父親啟蒙開始學習視譜，短短半年便正式開始學習小提琴；七歲時是錢舟非常重要的一年，因為在一個機會下使得她得以在萬人體育館舉辦獨奏會。十一歲那年，美國小提琴教父史坦 (Issac Stern)前往大陸，並拍攝了一部記錄影片「From Mao to Mozart」，那時的錢舟就出現在影片中並有機會給小提琴教父史坦(Issac Stern)聆聽她的琴藝。 文革結束後，中國的音樂學院恢復招生，錢舟報考上海音樂學院附小，在一千多名小提琴報考的學員中，錢舟是入選5名的其中之一。在國小五年級時，她以全校第一名的成績提早畢業並升上中學，當時上海音樂學院院長見她擁有不同凡響的音樂天賦，便破例收她到自己的班上並親自指導。 一九八四年錢舟獲中國小提琴比賽少年組第一名及中國作品獎，並首次離開大陸到日本及波蘭演奏，隨後被伊麗莎白國際小提琴大賽終身評委西諾夫斯基賞識，於次年十五歲時赴美深造至琵琶蒂音樂院，跟隨伯爾﹒塞諾夫斯基門下，隔年獲美國琵琶蒂音樂學院小提琴比賽第一名，並於1992年畢業獲得藝術家文憑，且留校任教。在1987年參與巴黎「瑪格麗特﹒隆/雅克﹒蒂博大賽」，這使得錢舟在國際樂壇上一鳴驚人，她獲得大賽首獎、最佳莫札特作品演奏獎、最佳獨奏獎、技藝獎、國際音樂家獎及觀眾投票獎，亦是該音樂大賽首位贏得獎項的中國人，以及有史以來最年輕及連奪6大獎項的得獎者；這樣的殊榮在大賽五十年歷史中是絕無僅有的，而使得錢舟從此平步青雲、名列世界級小提琴家之列。

Violinist and recording artist Qian Zhou is Head of Strings and Assistant Professor of Violin at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Born in Hangzhou, China, Qian Zhou had her early training at the Shanghai Conservatory. In 1985, after winning first prize in the National Competition of China, she went to the United States where she completed her studies with Berl Senofsky at the Peabody Conservatory. In 1987, 18-year old Qian Zhou introduced herself to the world of music with a brilliant triumph at the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris, one of the top four international competitions in the world. She broke all precedent in the competition's 50-year history by winning the First Grand Prize and all the five major prizes. Her victory drew world-wide attention.Since then, Qian Zhou has been in the first rank of world-class violinists of her generation. She is a frequent recitalist and soloist with orchestras in Europe, United States, Asia and Africa. Past engagements include concerts with the Baltimore Symphony, BBC Symphony, BBC Scottish Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, National Orchestra of Ile de France, Rome Symphony Orchestra, Spanish National Orchestra, Russian Philharmonic, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Central Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Highlights of recitals include peformances at the Kennedy Centre, Carnegie Hall, Vienna Concert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
