顏惠民，臺灣五大家族之一的長子，十歲便前往日本求學。一青和枝，日本平民人家的老么，戰爭帶來了孤獨童年。一位是想成為日本人的臺灣人，一位是想成為臺灣人的日本人，文化認同成為他倆生命中的課題。相差16歲的兩人，1966年在銀座相遇，這一路他們彼此陪伴，跨海相戀、結婚生子，和枝成為名門望族裡的日本媳婦，用料理尋找最在地的臺灣滋味，溫柔護持身心逐漸崩潰的丈夫。在最無望的日子裡，她是家中唯一光亮，悉心收藏一切苦痛、寂寞、快樂，安放在手箱裡。40年後，女兒一青妙意外發現母親遺留的回憶，開始踏上這趟尋找父母的旅途。
YEN Hui-min is the eldest son of one of the five most notable families in Taiwan. Kazue HITOTO is the youngest daughter of an ordinary Japanese family. All their agonizing pain, loneliness, and happiness was put away in a suitcase. Forty years later, their daughter, Tae HITITO accidentally discovered the memories left by her mother and embarked on a journey to find her parents.
