馬可波羅抵達蒙古統治的中國時，還是個意氣風發的少年，晚年返鄉，他仍在獄中以書寫回顧一生豐富的經歷。這位「永恆旅人」與忽必烈汗在現實與想像中的對話，成為卡爾維諾《看不見的城市》和今晚這齣戲的敘事主軸。 馬可波羅的故事上溯史前沈沒的暮大陸，東西方的傳奇大戰特洛伊，以迄近代種種族群與文化的交流與衝突，他甚至參觀了當代城市生活的健身房…他有時像一隻兔子般好奇、有時像一個手風琴藝人般盲目地流浪，而忽必烈和他、世界和劇場、或是來自暮大陸的神秘少女和你我，這些不同的平行空間，是否真有一條秘密通道？而誰又掌握了開啟的鑰匙？
Marco Polo, who was a youth when he arrived in China reigned by Mongolians, wrote a book in retrospect of the adventures in his life when he was in prison in his old age. The dialogues (real or imaginary ones) between Marco Polo and Kubilai Khanare are the main themes of Italo Calvino's in VISIBLE CITIES and the play held tonight. In this play, Marco Polo's adventures trespass the limit of time. He travels back to visit the Prehistoric sunk Mu continent, witnesses the Troy War; then goes beyond his time to observe cultural interchanges and conflicts between ethnic groups. He even visits the gym of the modern age. Sometimes Marco Polo trespasses because he is determined to find out the truth; sometimes he just wanders around without specific destinations. The question is, is there any relation between these parallel worlds? Who takes charge the key to open the gate to go into another world?
