西哈諾(Cyrano)為一名其貌不揚有著大鼻子奇特外表的勇敢軍官，他愛上了他的表妹羅珊妮(Roxanne)。然而，她卻愛上了一位英俊的青年隊新兵，克利斯提安(Christian)。為了向羅珊妮表達他的愛意，西哈諾為克利斯提安捉刀寫情書給羅珊妮，她也以為這文采洋溢的情書是克利斯提安所寫而愛上了他。後來西哈諾與克利斯提安奉命出征，西哈諾繼續每日寫情書給羅珊妮表達他的情感，不久之後克利斯提安知道羅珊妮並不是愛他，而是愛上西哈諾的文情，知道事情真相後的克利斯提安十分沮喪失望，而在戰爭中奮勇捐軀。十五年後，西哈諾前去拜訪因心傷而進入修道院的羅珊妮，事實上西哈諾在戰爭中亦身心俱疲，此時西哈諾背誦出克利斯提安寫給羅珊妮的最後情書，羅珊妮此時才明白原來西哈諾才是她一直以來愛的那個人。
在這部戲中，羅斯丹廣為人知的《大鼻子情聖》設定成日本劇作家喬三所寫，而他劇作家的日常生活與他所寫的劇本情節常互相交錯，甚而喬三與其所寫的劇作中的西哈諾同時存在，因此演出中哪場是現在？哪場是虛幻世界？而哪場又是劇作家回憶的過去？這些問題都是我們希望觀眾自己去探索。
本劇為1999年第二屆戲劇奧林匹克的開幕演出。
Cyrano de Bergerac, a valiant soldier blighted with an extraordinary large nose, is in love with his cousin Roxanne. She, however, is in love with an attractive young cadet named Christian. As a way of communicating his feeling to Roxanne, Cyrano writes love letters to her on Christian’s behalf, and because of the magnificence of the letters Roxanne falls deeply in love with Christian. Cyrano and Christian go into battle, where Cyrano continues to write daily love letters to Roxanne. Before long, however, Christian learns that Roxanne is, in fact, not in love with him but with the letters that Cyrano has written. Crushed and despondent, Christian willingly dies in battle. Fifteen years later, Cyrano pays a visit to the convent that Roxanne has entered, but with fatal wounds he has sustained in a skirmish. Because he is able to recite Christian’s last love letter to her by heart, Roxanne comes to know that he is the person she has been in love with all along. In this performance, Rostand’s well-known story of Cyrano has been written by a playwright named Kyozo. His everyday life as a playwright and the incidents he writes about become indiscernibly intermingled, moreover, the play is so constructed that the man the playwright and the character, Cyrano, take on a double existence. Which part is the present, where does the imaginary world begin, and to what extent is this recollection of the playwright’s own past? These are questions we wish to explore. This work was used to launch the opening of the Second Theatre Olympics in 1999.
