又是一段他常夢見的影像片段。

夢中，有他殘悉不全的童年記憶，一張不是很清楚的臉，一段很遙遠的歌聲，一個在陽台曬棉被的身影，一些他醒來也哼不出的歌，和一種熟悉又陌生的味道。

這些不知來自何處的記憶，到底是個什麼樣的謎啊?有時想起讓他疑惑，但又有種溫暖的感覺，他喜歡想到這些，但卻不知這些是什麼。直到有一天，父母告訴他:曾有個叫阿花的年輕原住民褓母，在他三歲前，都一直陪伴著他。

這年，這個老是愛用環保筷當指揮棒的他，榮登國家交響樂團有史以來最年輕的指揮兼音樂總監。才初上任，便授予重任開始著手籌備國家音樂廳的年度旗艦計畫。然而在這莫名的壓力與疑惑多時的夢境交錯下，讓他陷入焦慮靈感全無，連曲目都不知如何安排，就好比女巫突然失去了魔法。

就在一場也是由他指揮的音樂會，樂手陸續進場，調音，指揮出場，觀眾鼓掌，指揮回禮完，轉身，場燈正要暗下之際，觀眾席裡突然有位年輕女子站了起來，開始用她最驕傲的聲音，大聲唱著原住民的古謠，然後在眾人驚訝的眼神中，一邊唱一邊從容地離開這華麗的殿堂。

不知是被她的歌聲嚇著還是魔法奏效，愣在台上這位年輕的指揮，露出了詭異的微笑，他忽然想起那些夢中的殘影，或許，那些跳動的、剝析不清的的影像，不是假的，是真實的。或許，夢中的那個人，是真的。或許那些音樂，也是存在的。或許那些夢，也是真的。也或許，冥冥中，他踏上音樂這條路，與她相關。

隔日醒來，他向樂團告假，越過了中央山脈，來到了花東海岸。在一個排班司機的牽引下，來到了位在卑南山下的南王部落，於是便展開了一段曲折而豐富的音樂旅程，一場古典樂與原住民傳統歌謠的另類接觸亦隨之展開......同時也意外地完成了這群族人歌手們的多年願望：「總有一天，我們要把這個聲音，帶到國家音樂廳！」

It was again that dream he often had. There were pieces of his childhood memories. An obscured face. A singing voice from a distance. A figure on the balcony. Songs he could not recall. A scent at once familiar and strange. He liked to ponder over them, feeling the mysterious sense of warmth in them.

That year, the little boy who used to conduct with a chopstick became the youngest conductor and music director in NSO history, and was assigned the important mission of arranging the annual flagship project of the National Concert Hall. Overwhelmed by the pressure and his bewildering dreams, he sank into desperate anxiery, as helpless as a sorceress who had suddenly lost her craft.

In that one concert he was to conduct, after the musicians took their seats and tuned their instruments, he stepped onto the stage; the audience applauded, and he bowed in return. Just as the lights were about to dim, a young woman in the audience suddenly stood up and began singing loudly in her most prided voice her ancient aboriginal ballads, and stepped out of this holy shrine as the entire concert hall stared at her in wonder.

As though astounded by her voice or transfixed by some magic, the young conductor, standing dumbfounded on the stage, suddenly smiled. He was reminded of the silhouettes in his dreams - the pulsating, speckled, obscured images that were perhaps not unteal - perhaps his life being connected to music somehow had something to do with her - his aboriginal nanny whose existence he did not know of until as of late.

The next day, he took leave with the orchestra and traveled over the Central Mountain to the Nanwang tribe. As he began a meandering and inspiring musical pilgrimage, traditional aboriginal ballad and Western classical music came into contact, unexpectedly helping the tribal singers accomplish their long-time dream: “Someday, we are going to bring this voice to the National Concert Hall!”
